December Gardening
Hi ,
The year is drawing to a close this month, with plenty of festivities to look forward to at the end of December and the start of 2025.
I’m really excited to tell you that my new book, ‘Plants with Superpowers’ is coming out in March 2025, and is available to preorder now.
These 75 plants, all of which can be grown in your homes or gardens, have been carefully selected thanks to their incredible abilities, showcasing the wonder of nature.
Throughout 2024, I’ve travelled the country with ITV’s This Morning, transforming front gardens for deserving This Morning viewers. Get all caught up with the latest Front Garden Facelift on their YouTube channel here.

Gardening tip of the month
Care for your pot-grown Christmas tree
Keep your Christmas tree looking healthy throughout the festive season with my pot-grown tree care advice.
Keep your pot-grown tree outside
Firstly, you want to keep your pot-grown Christmas tree outside for as long as possible. Bringing it indoors for too long can harm the plant.
Whilst it is outdoors, position it somewhere sheltered, and make sure it has plenty of water, without waterlogging. Check the soil with your finger before watering to be absolutely sure.
When to bring your pot-grown tree inside
Wait as long as you can, is a good general rule. If you have the patience, wait until a few days before Christmas.
Make sure when deciding when to bring it in, you consider how long it takes you to get it all decorated how you like it, with lights, baubles, a tree topper, and more.
Caring for your pot-grown tree
Once you’ve chosen the right day to bring your tree inside, aim to position it somewhere cool, away from heat sources.
Also, try to position it somehwere it can get natural light to keep it healthy, and perhaps turn it every few days. It’s worth remembering not to keep your tree indoors for more than 12 days.
After Christmas?
Finally, when the festivities are over, acclimatise your pot-grown Christmas tree somewhere cool like a garage or unheated porch.
After a few days, it is ready to take back outdoors, on a fairly mild day if possible. Then, you can plant it out in the garden, or keep it potted, increasing the pot size as it grows to ensure it thrives.
